The problem with most AI consulting
There is a lot of noise in this market right now. Plenty of people will sell you an AI strategy, a workshop, or a slide deck full of possibilities. Far fewer will build you something that works on Monday morning.
That gap matters, because the hard part of AI in a real business is almost never the AI. It is the plumbing: getting clean data out of the systems you already use, handling the awkward edge cases your team works around every day, and making the result something people will genuinely use instead of quietly going back to the spreadsheet.
I have spent fifteen years building software and running operations, including six years running a logistics company. So when I look at your workflow, I am thinking about what can actually be built and maintained, not what sounds impressive in a proposal.
What I do as an AI consultant
- Work out what is worth automating. Not everything is. I look at how your team really works and point out where the hours are going.
- Tell you honestly where AI helps and where it does not. Sometimes the answer is a properly built system with no AI in it at all. That is a perfectly good answer.
- Build the thing. Custom software, automations, and AI features built around your existing process rather than forcing you onto someone else's template.
- Connect what you already pay for. Your spreadsheets, email, calendars and existing tools stay. The new system joins them up and fills the gaps.
An AI consultant who ships
The clearest way to judge anyone in this field is to ask what they have actually built and put in front of real users. Here is mine.

Note what that list does not say. Only DSPOps genuinely uses AI, and I have named exactly what it does. The other two are automation and custom software, and calling them AI would be an easy way to sound more impressive and less trustworthy. If someone's portfolio labels everything AI-powered, ask them which model, doing what.
How to choose an AI consultant
Whether or not you work with me, these are worth asking anyone you are considering.
- What have you built that is live right now? Not pilots or proofs of concept. Something people use.
- What did you talk a client out of? A consultant who has never told a client that something is not worth doing is selling, not advising.
- Who maintains it after launch? AI features drift and break. Find out what happens in month six.
- Is the price fixed? Open-ended day rates put the risk on you. Fixed project pricing puts it on the consultant, where it belongs.
- Will my team actually use this? The most common failure is not technical. It is a system nobody adopts because it made someone's day harder.

What does an AI consultant actually do?
A good AI consultant works out where AI and automation would genuinely save your business time or money, and where they would not. That means looking at how your team actually works, identifying the repetitive tasks worth automating, and being honest about the ones that are not worth touching. Some consultants stop at the recommendation. I carry on and build the thing.
What is the difference between an AI consultant and an AI developer?
A consultant advises on what to do. A developer builds it. The gap between the two is where a lot of projects quietly die, because the strategy was written by someone who never had to make it work. I do both, so the plan is shaped by what can actually be built and run.
How much does an AI consultant cost in London?
Rates vary enormously, from day rates at large consultancies to fixed project pricing from independents. I quote a fixed price per project after the free workflow audit, once I have seen the work involved, so you know the full cost before anything starts. No day rates running up, no open-ended retainers.
Do I need an AI consultant, or just better software?
Often it is the second one. A lot of what gets sold as AI is really just software that should have been built properly in the first place. Part of my job is telling you which of the two you actually need, and if the answer is that your existing tools would do the job with better wiring, I will say so.
